Where Are You Looking for Simplicity?
Simplicity is truly a lifestyle. We don’t live it every moment, and we don’t live it in every aspect of our lives, but it’s a way of looking at the world and ordering our actions around that viewpoint: a lifestyle. In some areas of life, it may have priority (for me, that’s in my home and in my relationships), while simplicity can take a backseat in other areas (mine are work and wardrobe). So I’ve got a question today that’s a bit indulgent, but I’m very curious: where in your life are you looking for simplicity?
I know that there’s a pretty diverse mix of readers here: men, women, college students, retirees, parents, marrieds, singles, voluntary simplicity fans, and those doing their best while stuck on a busy treadmill. So from that diverse mix, I’m wondering what common ground we have, what different goals we hold, and what we value.
Instead of three things today, I have three questions. If you’re up for, drop into the comments with any answers you want to share. I’d love to hear what you’ve got on your mind. Here’s the questions:
1. Where in your life are looking for simplicity? (Where is simplicity a priority?)
2. Where is simplicity unimportant to you?
3. What’s the best thing that simplicity brings to your life?
See you in the comments, and thanks for reading!

1. Money and time management.
2. It doesn’t matter to me for anything that I enjoy like books, movies, taking walks, and so on.
3. Clarity.

Hiya
They’re very good questions. It’s caused me to look at the bigger picture of my life.
1. I look for simplicity in the simplest place. Inside myself (no jokes please). Then I look to arrange it in my life around me. When my thinking is simple and purposeful then my behaviour reflects it.
2. Currently, I believe simplicity is always useful. There’s already complexity in my environments and tools I enjoying being in and using.
3. For me simplicity brings relaxation with more awareness of what I’m doing and what’s happening around me. As a result I appreciate more and find it easier to replace the things I don’t need.
Thanks

1. Finances, and at home.
2. Work; but not necessarily that simplicity is unimportant. I like the complexity of my job, and find it challenging; but when I have a project, I like to bring simplicity to the different steps. (Hope that makes sense.)
3. Inner peace, and confidence.
(voluntary simplicity fan not too long out of college. You never know, you might see trends in the specific groups .)

Finances and money, that’s where simplicity is important to me. If’s it’s not simple then I just find it much harder to manage and keep up with. The simpler the better.

1. Where in your life are looking for simplicity? (Where is simplicity a priority?)Balancing work and personal time…I’m terrible at it…
2. Where is simplicity unimportant to you? I think it’s important everywhere right now as I figure out the balance of things.
3. What’s the best thing that simplicity brings to your life? It rids myself of worry instantly.

Interesting and thought provoking questions Sara! Not something that can be properly answered off the cuff, but here are a few thoughts.
I seek simplicity in the way I communicate ideas. This is especially true with my clients. Since health and fitness can be inherently confusing and frustrating (given mainstream medias propensity to sensationalism), I try to keep their experience as simple as possible.
I seek simplicity in my own exercise and nutritional strategies. That does not mean simplistic, as these things can get very “sophisticated” without being complicated.
I seek simplicity in my consumption of media. I choose what goes into my head and how – for the most part. That has meant cutting the cable and only rarely reading the paper. I get my news through the channels I trust when I choose to. This isn’t perfect obviously. Media messages are all around us. But it helps.
Where I don’t seek simplicity is in my Faith. I’d rather enjoy the utter vastness and complexity of it.
I’m sure there is much more. But that’s what comes off the top of my head.
Thanks for making us think Sara.

1. Where in your life are looking for simplicity? In simple things that work well. For example, old fashioned canvas top sneakers can do just as well for a lot of folks as the hi-tech ones with all the frou-frou designs on them.
2. Where is simplicity unimportant to you? I’m having trouble thinking of anytplace right now where it is unimportant.
3. What’s the best thing that simplicity brings to your life? Contentment. Don’t feel the need to chase after more ’stuff’ or follow the latest fad.

I look for simplicity wherever there is complexity
I try to simplify the core buckets: mind, body, emotions, career, financial, relationships, and fun.
There’s plenty of complexity waiting to happen, so if I can keep the core on track, life’s good.

1. Relationships with others is the most important for me right now, but I think simplicity would be nice to have in every aspect of life.
2. As I said in #1, I think it’s useful in every aspect of life. I don’t mind complexities when it comes to learning, however. I know that life lessons aren’t simple for a reason.
3. Being positive and being present!

” What’s the best thing that simplicity brings to your life?”
It helps me focus on the truly important things. When my schedule and my home are not cluttered with unnecessary stuff, I can focus on what I love and enjoy.

1. Simplicity is important for my mind – keeping work, life and commitments together.
2. Simplicity is unimportant in books. I love to unravel them.
3. Simplicity brings peace.

1.) Possessions are my favorite focus for simplicity (i.e. less is truly more, truly better — unless you are poor, which turns the tables).
2.) My inner life does not need to be simple (richness, complexity and paradox are just fine in the context of a soul!)
3.)Integrity and joy are the best things simplicity brings to my life (at its best when I’m really practicing it)

I’m looking for simplicity in any area of my life that is beset by trivialities.
I consider simplicity unimportant when it comes to people
The best thing that simplicity bring to my life is an ability to focus on what really matters.

I think that for most people simplicity is not a priority, therefore not important. They do not have to embrace it but to explore an aspect of it can reap benefits. I think choice should be everyone’s right, so to focus on an area or two is a good thing.
I look at simplicity as a way of life. I see beauty in simplicity. I see simplicity as freedom, pleasure and joy. It’s the whole package.
So…
1. I look for simplicity in everything
2. simplicity is not unimportant it is my pen name, my life and my vision for a softer world, complexity is usually practiced by those that resist change or are lazy. Even scientist break everything down to the lowest common denominator.
3. Simplicity brings me…freedom (and so many other things)

1. I’m looking for simplicity in my home. I’m there all the time, I also want to keep the place pleasant for my husband.
2. I have a pretty complicated internet “life” and don’t have any interest in trimming that down.
3. The best thing of simplicity is not feeling stressed out. I don’t worry about money because I’m not trying to buy a ton of stuff. I don’t worry about my health because I’m not bombarding it with lots of junk food and the likes. I don’t worry about my quilting hobby’s lack of production because I don’t set deadlines and goals. Ebbs and flows are good.

1 In management of my virtual world. So much to explore, so many interesting people and places to visit I get lost in the complexity.
2 Physical / material world. I’ve cleaned that of all clutter and now it’s a very stripped down life. I recommend it!
3 Freedom, flexibility and a light energy

These are some great questions!
I’m looking for simplicity in my home life. My husband and I are about to downscale from a 1,200 s.f. home to a very small, ultra eco-friendly mini home of 600 s.f. We’ve been going through our possessions and donating everything we don’t love or absolutely need.
It’s been incredibly liberating to be free of so much stuff!
Everything we have left is either super special of super useful.

I look for simplicity in my learning experience. In other words my education, you know, studying and all. Paper clutter and huge amount of facts needs to be organized.
