Three Simple Ways to Enjoy Spring
Winter’s putting up a bit of a fight here in Idaho, but spring is absolutely here! The gusty winds, the daffodils springing up around the neighborhood, the hormonal young adults flitting about… Yep, it’s definitely spring. One thing I love about spring is that it’s easy to enjoy life. Just being able to sit outside or put on short sleeves feels like such a treat! So what are three simple ways that you enjoy spring? Here’s mine:
1. Pulling weeds: I’m a weed-pulling fanatic. I get such a satisfied feeling of accomplishment when those suckers come loose, roots and all. This is probably an indication of what a dork I am, but having fresh weeds to pull every day after work is like free entertainment.
2. Wearing flip-flops: I love flip-flops, and I used to get wear them year-round in California. In Idaho, not so much. Bringing back the ‘flops is such a spring ritual, ushering in months of casual fun.
3. Barbeques: Okay, we actually do BBQ in the winter, but now I don’t have to worry about busting my ass on the ice when I go to flip a steak. Plus, fresh veggies on the grill are so absolutely spring.
So by all means, spill it! Share the simple ways you enjoy the season in the comments.

Well, the first priority here in Quebec City would be to get rid of the 4 feet of snow that still covers the front lawn!
But certainly Spring is starting to make itself felt. And here’s how…
1. The feel of the sun on your skin.
2. Wearing something other than boots on your feet.
3. Going outside without a parka.
Cheers,
Adam

Spring hasn’t quite arrived yet here in Nova Scotia (yesterday it snowed…), but when it does, I’ll be: putting in a garden, sitting on the back deck in the sun, and busting out the carpi pants and sandals. Yay spring! I’m ready for this whole winter thing to be over.

I’m with Adam. In the northeast it’s not warm enough for flip-flops yet, but here’s what I enjoy:
1. The absence of stinging cold in the breeze
2. Grilling! (even though it’s a little cold)
3. The sounds – birds, the brook near my window

I am looking forward to being able to dry my washing on the balcony (on racks) very soon instead of in front of the radiators
. I don´t have a dryer so it will be great to have the washing racks out of the apartment until next winter!

Hi Sara,
Here are three ways that I enjoy spring:
1. Nothing brings me more joy that to have to put away the winter coat and sweaters.
2. Walking barefoot.
3. Seeing the little bunnies hopping around and flowers starting to bloom.

This is easy:
1) Windows down in the car, or open in the house
2) Hearing the birds in the morning makes it that much easier to get of bed
3) Longer days, which means more time to be outside!
Hooray for spring!!

Spring is wonderful and even though it doesn’t feel very spring-like where I live, your post inspired me to think of ways to enjoy spring. The top three ways I enjoy spring are:
1. Noticing the new buds popping up on trees.
2. Taking long walks with my dog.
3. Knowing that soon I can wear sandals and go jacketless.
Thanks for reminding me what I have to look forward to in the upcoming months!

1. seeing the green or pink mist driving down the highway – the mist is the buds on the trees you are driving past… this is the happiest thing I see every day.
2. opening the windows just a crack to get a fresh breeze in the house… in our case the furnace is still on… but the fresh air lends new life to my day.
3. assessing all the perennials that made it through the winter – and today, seeing how many hollyhocks are going to bloom on the side of the house!

2. Getting to ride my bikes more often (and not putting on the winter bike clothes).

I’m in agreement with your list in the post… I LOVE pulling weeds! Right now I’m in a heated battle with the clover in the back yard, which is extensive (already conquered the front…).
I’m in the South, so Spring here can start in January sometimes! This year my impatiens are still blooming from last summer. We also get to wear flip flops nearly year round, just skipping the cold days and grilling out is year-round as well.
My biggest Spring thing is eating out on the patio, followed by planting vegetables & additional flowers, and buying hanging baskets of flowers for the front porch.

I thought I was the only one with a weed pulling obsession! My husband sure thinks I’m a dork, but I share your enthusiasm – I get such an accomplishment out of it.
Thanks to my two new little ones, spring has taken on an entirely new meaning to me. My top Three This year:
1. Going Barefoot – Hey, I’m pregnant what do you expect
2. Picking wildflower bouquets with the kids – they get such a thrill out of it. Mommy, mommmy these flowers are beauteeful.
3. Planning my backyard – it needs a serious overhaul and I’ve become a bit obsessed about it. I want to make it a backyard haven for the kids. I’ll be writing about it soon on my site

I’m jealous that spring is coming sooner for you in Idaho than for us in Portland, Oregon. But I can still be happy for you
.
So my spring this year is focused on the fun of growing more of my household’s own food (and I agree that digging up weeds is deeply satisfying). Because the baby chicks, compost-making and berry and vegetable plantings are labor-intensive, I’ve brought in a congenial housemate who will pay for his rent by being my fellow urban farmer. Very fun!! And it builds simplicity and community. Here is the way I found him and structured the arrangement: http://www.diamondcutlife.org/seeking-the-win-win-again/

2) I can start planning picnics
3) it means summer’s coming…is that too much like #1? hmmm…I think I just really, really, really, like summer…

Spring for me was fresh starts. Being outdoors. The smell of the earth unthawing. The first crocus. Spring jackets and my kids playing outside. Teaching them to ride their bikes. T-ball games. I could go on and on. This was living in Michigan.
