Three Complexities You Choose to Embrace
It’s not always about simplifying, is it? If it was, I sure as heck wouldn’t have gotten married, adopted a dog, or taken a job where 30 kids can take me hostage a few times a week. (Glitter fights? So not simple.) Sometimes the purest pleasures are complicated as hell.
So today, I’d love to hear about three complexities you happily embrace.
And we’re off!
1. Blogging. As a reader noted yesterday, blogging about simplicity instead of just doing it is pretty ironic. Dude, tell me about it.
2. Questioning conventional wisdom. Accepting what’s “supposed” to be true might save time, but taking the long way can be mighty satisfying as well.
3. Fashion. Silly, self-indulgent, and ridiculously fun.
What about you? What parts of your life do you choose to leave tangled, tattered, and entirely messy?

1. Tackling the internet -> I’m trying to figure out how Facebook works (yes, only now am I making a foray…) – I’m scared to even think about Twitter.
2. The human body -> Part of what I love about my job is the intricacy and complexity of this machine we walk around in. Sometimes it boggles my mind and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
3. Cooking -> Sometimes I make very simple fare, but from time to time I love to just turn the kitchen into a zone of chaos and try to produce a masterpiece…
Cheers,
Adam

1. Like Annie, tracking my finances to the penny (yes I can tell you excactly how much I spent on cat litter each year for the past 10 years).
2. Blogging, I spend hours taking photos and have over 8000 photos in my iPhoto.
3. Cooking, I love simple meals, but I LOVE LOVE to make a nice meal from tons of specialty ingredients. How fun.

That’s a very good question. I had to think a few minutes.
1) Running a “taxi service” for my kids if it’s for something that keeps them physically active.
2) I get my spending money from a 4 hour job one evening a week. My husband has a little job that provides his spending money too.
3) Learning new computer skills/networking stuff. Blog, facebook, goodreads, flickr.

P.S. Am I right that the lead photo is of a Chihuly piece? Love him. Took my kids to a Chihuly exhibition at a botanical garden/conservatory when they were 4.5 and 2.5. We ended up going 3 times taking different visitors/relatives. A year later, the younger one and I were at our city’s children’s museum and she’s making a big swirly colorful mess. I ask her what she’s drawing, and she says “A Chihuly.” The art student volunteer and I almost fell over. I have to admit I was a little proud, but was hoping the volunteer wasn’t thinking that I was some pretentious parent who coaches her kids to be little showoffs.

1) Software engineering-The bigger and more complex, the better. Nothing has challenged my intellect, patience and good humor as a massively complex software project.
2)Cats- Such mysterious creatures, with such a contradictory melding of domestic and wild.
” God made the cat in order that humankind might have the pleasure of caressing the tiger.”
- Fernand Mery
3) The Star Trek Universe-My wife and I are Trekkies like few others. Nowhere else is there a place like the Star Trek Universe that is so complex, multidimensional and vast. The freedom to create a personality, history and backstory is unparalleled. Nowhere else in science fiction is hope and optimism such central part of the universe.

~ My husband
Sometimes I have the hardest time understanding him, but I love how different he is from me. (Is he complecated or am I just making it that way?
)
~ Family relationships. My family is very complex and confusing, though I would love some simplicity there I’m learning to accept and love them just where they’re at, complex and drama and all.
~ My own head. Hehe, I can make things way too complex sometimes but I’m learning to accept where I’m at and be happy there as I make small changes to make my life the way I want it.

Keeping my son in Premier (travel!) soccer AND being involved in both his Premier team and his high school Varsity team. Soccer is my life!?
Working from home with my boyfriend in a small house and traveling with him for business with 1 son in still in high school AND playing soccer.
Having a cat and then getting another puppy when our old dog died – and dealing with the soccer and business travel with 2 pets at home.
I’m with problemsolverblog – These things are complex & messy, but they make life worthwhile. The rest of the stuff that gets in the way needs to go!
