Three Things That Get Your Mojo Going

Mojo. That’s the word that’s been on the tip of my tongue all week, waiting to work its way to my brain.
Mojo. It’s what I was trying to get at with my post on Feeling Rich in a Weak Economy earlier this week, only I didn’t realize it until now.
Mojo. It’s what puts a spring in your step, a glimmer in your eye, and power behind your words and actions.
Mojo. It’s what I want to hear about today.
What gets your mojo going? (I’m not talking about your bedroom mojo. Please feel free to keep that information entirely to yourself.) I want to hear about everyday mojo. What gets you to that place where you feel like a million dollars and everyone you pass can sense it?
For me, it seems to be:
- An energizing song. If I want to get my mojo going, I pretend that all the brass in Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love” is playing right behind me as I walk. It’s completely silly and yet entirely effective.
- A well-cut piece of clothing. You don’t have to look good to feel good, but for me, it sure doesn’t hurt.
- Holding my husband’s hand. I feel invincible when B and I walk down the street together.
I’ll be honest here: there’s nothing particularly admirable about my list. I’d love to say that eschewing style and doing good deeds gets my mojo going. It’s just simply not true. The good news for me is that getting myself in a powerful frame of mind helps me accomplish some of those high-minded things, and that’s good enough for me.
So the floor is yours? What gets your mojo going? Any crazy mojo killers to look out for? Step lightly into the comments and show us what gets you going!

1. A sunny day! Nothing like that to put me into “powerful mode”
2. A phone call from someone I love.
3. Breakfast with my better half. Sleepy smiles over coffee and toast is the bestest! I feel a good start of the day makes all the difference in how I perform and even in my mood.

My mojo is going this morning because of the election! Feeling optimistic about the future is good for the mojo.
So is a good cup of coffee and writing. A good cup of coffee while writing is even better.

Nothing gets my mojo going like a good song…Crazy In Love is a great choice, but for me it is more along the lines of Welcome to the Jungle or Freak on a Leash…

I correct my posture. I sit hunched over a computer all day, so when I get up to walk somewhere I do the old “chin up, shoulders back, chest out, stand as tall as you can” routine, and I can feel that positive change just settle into my bones. I make sure I take a short walk before every important meeting, when I need to tackle a difficult task, and any time I need to balance and center myself. Works every time!

Having a little time in the day to be creative — even if its just baking a loaf of bread, or stitching a few stitches more on a sewing project.
Getting outside with my two boys and watching their love and wonder for nature. Getting my excersise while I’m there.
Funky hats and scarves and striped socks. Ridiculous, I know, but they make me feel so happy and confident.

5. Planning: doesn’t matter if it’s a vacation or a remodel or another project… I love planning.

1. Sitting out on the porch on a sunny day with a glass of wine from one of our local wineries.
2. Interesting books/movies/music…
3. A good bike ride where I can at least pretend I’m fast. A slow relaxing ride works just as well.

Loved this definition: It’s what puts a spring in your step, a glimmer in your eye, and power behind your words and actions.

Watching my children.
I love to watch them when they don’t realize they’re being watched. They make me so happy and proud, sometimes I feel my heart will explode.
Of course, they can also drive me crazy. But for the most part, they fill me with energy and happiness.

Hmmm, this is a good one. I feel like watching Austin Powers after reading this.
Most of my immediate family is in the same city as me. We get together about once every 2 weeks, have dinner, share stories, drink, play games, and just have an awesome time. That gets my mojo going and gets me fired up!
The feeling I get after recording a new song from start to finish is absolute euphoria.
And finally, number three… Falling asleep and waking up next to my lovely girlfriend. She brings me so much joy.

I love knowing I’ve done the “right thing” in these areas:
1) I’ve exercised or been physically active
2) I’ve eaten well and wouldn’t be embarrassed if others knew everything I’ve eaten today
3) I’ve made good choices as a wife and mother and my family is better for it
Good food for thought. Thanks.

Things that get me amped up to run:
1) Music, anything from Khatatchuiran’s ‘Sabre Dance’, to Vaughn Williams’ ‘Seventeen Come Sunday”, to Giorgio Moroder’s ‘Chase’.
2)Caffine. Used to be “Airborne Coffee”, a 48 cup urn boiled down to a 5 cup thermos or Jolt Cola. Nowdays, it’s Pepsi Max Diet or Diet Mountain Dew.
3) Some time with a well designed software project. Makes me appreciate its direct elegance and purpose.

All good answers so far so I will borrow Avani-Mehta’s thought on a good sleep - especially after a good bike ride (which David Y already mentioned) or another outdoor activity (thanks Jeff@MySuperChargedLife) which sends me off into a deeper, even more relaxed state of sleep.

Watching my kids play. Dancing with them. A song. A good read. Singing out loud - for my kids and with my kids
Watching them quietly when they are asleep. Curling up in bed with a hot chocolate!

- Spending time with my wife (ok, I’m not *really* married but we’ve been together forever),
- Good music (I listen to Cirque du Soleil tunes when I need to concentrate),
- A good dvd (even if it’s something I’ve already watched)
- A good book (wow, does that make me a dork? Yeah, well, I like reading. Sometimes a good read pumps me up!)

This has been one of my favorites! I have to say, I was surprised by the mix of mellow activities and upbeat ones—a good reminder that everyone’s got their own ways of getting charged up.
I’m especially enjoying the musical selections. I totally remember getting hyped up to Sabre Dance when I was four. That song rocks!
