Weekly Links: Stinky Couch Edition
I don’t know how or even exactly when it happened, but at some point this weekend, the couch in my family room started reeking. And no matter how much Febreze we spray, the funk is putting up a valiant fight. It’s been such a battle that, in a very weird way, I’ve gained a measure of respect for the toxic smell. Not enough to want it to stick around, of course. Here’s hoping that the Little Stench That Could is obliterated today. With that, here a few more pleasant things that I’ve also gained respect for:
The Life Skills Network has done a very cool job of keeping content relevant in the face of changing economic times. From making life simpler and more affordable to making sense of the headlines, I’m very proud to be a part of this great group of bloggers. From The Life Skills Network:

J.D. Meier over at Sources of Insight has been putting out some great posts for the last few weeks. I really enjoyed his take on what to do when a Colleague Won’t Help, as well as Balancing Your Needs and Responding to Requests. The Nature vs. Nature debate is also one of the most interesting things J.D. has touched on.
Vered at MomGrind is always so real. She cements that reputation again with a post on Women Who Say No to Photoshopping. As a woman who’s been enjoying wearing less makeup for the last few weeks, I really appreciated this, as well as all the women who are proud to show who they really are.
Work Happy Now provided an excellent look at the work-life cycle, and posits that each individual can plan to have three careers in a lifetime. It’s not the obvious argument you might expect!
Emily at Remodeling This Life gives us some backstory on her path to simplicity in My Life, Downsized. I like her point here: “Every purchase has to have a purpose now because I never want to go back to the days of sorting through things that have been shoved away into boxes simply because they could.” That’s definitely something I can work on!
Illuminated Mind teaches us how to Create a Dream Sanctuary. Name it anything you want, it’s a cool idea.

This post isn’t super-fresh, but it is awesome and a fantastic read. A few weeks later, Loving Pulse’s Free Spirit My Ass is still worth checking out.

Thanks for the link. We do need to look at all phases of our various careers and assess their ability to support our lives. When we do this we can steer our career ship instead of just letting other people decide our fate.

Sara,
You all, folks of the life skills network, need to create a widget and put it on your blogs. It will help promote the website.

I don’t have a solution for the stinky couch other than to bake an apple pie. Apple pie smells rule all. That’s only a temporary solution, but it’s gets you started.

Thanks for pointing out all the other cool blogs. And you post reminds me — of how I want to get back to writing about practical matters. In the last few weeks it’s been more about theory and inspiration. But I gotta put my feet back on the ground.
