Three Things You Do to Reward Yourself

Most people who embrace simplicity agree that it’s its own reward. Still, I enjoy setting goals and rewarding myself. Whether it’s for a project completed, a hard day completed, or a financial goal, a reward is a great way of marking successes. So today, I’d like to know how you reward yourself.
I had to think about these for awhile, because I tend to find reasons to put off rewards. Once it’s within my grasp, I usually don’t need it as badly as I thought I did. Still, these are my favorites:
- Pepsi (It’s awful for me, so I try to savor them deeply and rarely)
- A bath
- An agenda-free day spent watching movies
What about you? What nice things do you do for yourself? Or should we reach for goals without attaching rewards? Drop into the comments and let me know!

I agree- rewards are treats and why should we not treat ourselves?!
My three are:
1. A bag of wine gums
2. A bag of jelly babies
3. A bag of either wine gums or jelly babies
… in any order I fancy!

I don’t have any set rewards for meeting my goals. Usually, joy of shouting and sharing with loved ones about meeting my goal is a reward by itself. The excitement, enthusiasm, feeling of achievement … nothing beats that.
Anytime I feel like treating myself, cuddling up and reading a light romance novel works wonders.

I’ll go with the day off thing, too. Nothing like guilt free sitting around doing nothing.

My rewards are: treating myself to a massage or facial, an afternoon watching the Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter DVDs, and a rich, decadent, chocolate brownie.

1. Relax & unwind in silence or by having the TV blathering away (until I’m totally numb or fall asleep, whichever comes first).
2. Lunch or dinner out (casual) with a beer or two.
3. Ice cream (neapolitan) with maple syrup, strawberries, and a cup of coffee. There’s always room for ice cream!

Oh I totally give myself permission to reward. We just finished flipping a house and after certain milestones we would stop and reward.
My personal favorite rewards
Not leaving the house. Not for anything. Just one day.
Watch movies (comedies) while wearing comfy clothing & relaxing on the couch.
Crawl in bed (or on the couch) and read a beach read book. No redeeming qualities.
My rewards are all “lazy” but that’s OK. I get a lot of rest & rejuvenation from these rewards.

I’m fortunate that these days I really enjoy my work, so I don’t find myself making those little deals in my head as much (work for such-and-such time and then do such-and-such enjoyable thing), but it used to be reading for me.
Work for 30 minutes and I’d allow myself to read a good book for 15 minutes (or an hour and 15 minutes… it was something like that

1. A new DVD, ’cause I can’t get out much and I love the movies. I’m trying to replace all my old videotaped movies with DVDs. Man, some stuff is hard to find, especially down here in Australia!
2. A new CD. I’ve got a great car stereo system, with an in-dash six-stacker CD, so when I do get out, I like to make my car into a mini-concert hall. Blues to Beethoven, rock ‘n’ roll, country, soundtracks, r and b, jazz … bring it on.
3. A new book. I love reading and I love buying books. Mostly, though, I take stuff out of the Library, because of the cost of books in Australia ($27 to $45 is not uncommon for a new release paperback, if you can believe it!). A great treat is to buy a book that I can read over and over again; I often try to find an old favourite at the Library, but they change their stock frequently. Who would believe that the vet books by James Herriot wouldn’t be available in any Library in a city of over a million people?

Sigh. Now I want all of these! I love the creative ideas, and I’m very glad to see that so many readers have simple pleasures they love.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far! Keep ‘em coming!

Wow… Good post. I just asked my husband what he does and he says: 1. Sushi, 2. Game time with his brother, 3. Haagendaz. Neither of us could think of something for me. We just realized that I don’t reward myself. =(!!!!

Oh, the sushi… Such a great reward. We don’t eat it very often so that when we do, we can really splurge.
But my big question: none? Nothing? I think it’s time for you to have a little splurge!
