You think you hate clutter? That’s nothing compared to the burning hatred your clutter has for you. Do you ever get the feeling that a place had a negative vibe? Ever feel uncomfortable in a room? Well, I’m here to tell you that it isn’t your imagination–it’s your clutter trying to get your attention. So, why the hostility?

1. You ignore your clutter. No one likes to be ignored. Why, your clutter may as well pack up and move off! Let your clutter find a home where it gets attention and love.

2. You blame your problems on your clutter. Every time you lose your keys, forget to pay a bill, or trip on your own shoelaces, you blame your stuff. And it doesn’t appreciate it.

3. You keep your clutter in terrible conditions. Dark closets with no lights, dusty corners, under the bed with the monsters and questionable dust bunnies–this is no way to live. Your clutter deserves a place of honor in someone’s house if not yours.

4. You don’t show your clutter any affection. Your other possessions get love: cleaning, gentle touches, regular use. Your clutter gets cursed and ignored. Of course it hates you! Every item needs a purpose and appreciation to have true value.

5. You make your clutter feel trashy. That alarm clock was once a necessity, a useful item with a purpose and a need. It was your companion, your coach, and your friend. But now? It’s been stuck in a closet since you upgraded to that new model and now it’s pretty much garbage. If it’s not trash, don’t treat it that way. Find a use for it or move it along.

End the Cycle of Clutter Abuse

Let your clutter live a full, happy life. Say your goodbyes, as painful as some may be, and let your junk rejoin the material world. Your clutter can have a new leash on life with renewed purpose and appreciation. Whether you sell it to the highest bidder via auction (what a confidence booster for old items!) or give it to charity (your clutter can feel good about making the world a better place), stop holding your unused items back from reaching their full potential. Just as your things have been there for you, it’s time to be there for your clutter, by giving it a second chance at life.
